A Few Of Our Favorites 2008

This past year has flown by for our galleries. We have framed so many creative projects for all of you. (Some of which we will feature images of below.) You've brought it all to us, from interesting posters to heartwarming children's art. You've had diplomas and other prestigious documents properly preserved, as well as your most valued treasures displayed into intricate shadowboxes.

There have been so many fun memories and stories you've shared with us throughout the year. We are looking forward to all the new projects you will each be bringing our way in 2009!

In Crown Point:
The following pieces really stuck with me this framing season ~Tracy~

John Birdzell brought in this vintage Hamm’s Beer ad that features Stan Musial and his autograph. He was a big fan of Stan Musial as a child and finally got something signed. Being a St. Louis girl, I have a fondness for Cardinals baseball and Stan the Man. I’ve also always been drawn to vintage beer memorabilia. I guess growing up seeing so many Anheuser Busch ads about town will do that to a girl. We framed it with a natural course linen mat and a distressed red frame to showcase a proper aged look and to bring out that Cardinals spirit.

Betsy Calvert wanted to give her daughter a fun and unique gift for her fortieth birthday. She acquired 40 one dollar bills with consecutive serial numbers and decided to frame them. We chose a fan shape, mounted each dollar in order, and made sure that the first and last three serial numbers were fully visible. The colors and textures we chose in the design process matched the green-grey etching found on US currency. I thought it was a clever gift and an interesting framing solution.

In Valparaiso: Here are a few projects I really enjoyed working on this year. ~Barbara Ann~

The mother of the children in this picture took this family photo. It was one of a series, all of which were fun to work on. The children are very creative to work with and offer suggestions throughout the frame selection process. This image was taken at a beach, so we selected a casual framing treatment with loads of texture. The frame is in our Cottage Casual line and was perfect for the image.

My client’s brother photographed this image. She had some of his photography blown up so she could enjoy them year round. The scale of them acts as a window of beautiful landscape on her walls. We kept the matting neutral using earth tones so that the light of the image came to life. The moulding around it is of heavy texture, which gives it an outdoorsy feel.

This vintage “Board of Trade” print was a great one to design.
One look at it and we knew this frame would look as if it were made for it.

I always enjoy preserving a family’s history. Here we showcased a serviceman’s metals, letter, & dog tags. The metals had a small mirror behind them so that you could view both sides of them. We added v-groove cuts to group everything together and chose a vintage style moulding to go around it. What a perfect way to keep a loved one’s life story alive!

In Chesterton: Favorite project? Where to begin? In the course of a year so many projects come thruthe Chesterton gallery, it is not just difficult, but impossible to choose just one. I love kids art, for several reasons; a couple of them are the fact that it comes from the heart, and when a parent frames it, the child feels proud. I love art that has meaning to the person -whether it's a 4x6 snapshot, a drawing on a scrap paper, a professional photograph or an original
oil painting. This year I've had several Heritage pieces - art that was in remembrance of a loved one, what a beautiful thing to do not only for yourself, but for the generations behind you.
I also enjoy art from travels, because they always have a story behind them. So, this year I have chosen these 3 projects. ~Pat~

A group of more than 20 men planned a trip of a lifetime to Scotland & England to do nothing but golf for almost 2 weeks. Since my husband is a golfer, I could appreciate what it meant for the golfers. To add to the memorability of these projects was the fact that not only were they challenging to design but build also. But the best thing, is that everytime he looks at these shadowboxes, it will bring a smile to his face.

Wishing Everyone a Safe & Happy New Year!
