It was the first one in our new car which is much roomier than our old compact. So that was a bonus right there! It was fun exploring all the different outlets & cubby holes; like moving into a house - 'where should I put this?' and 'what's this for?'. One of the great things about new cars is that they allow for all the electronic equipment - a place to charge your phone, another one for the ipod … this is too cool! So we plugged in the ipod and gps (can't go anywhere without a gps!) off we go!
In our old car, the speakers were cracked, so it was a joy to listen to music with the new speakers. And there's nothing like listening to your favorite music continuously - I remembered why I liked Paul Simon and John Lennon so much. And my new favorite group, Roomful of Blues.
We left a day early so we could catch a Reds baseball game in their new park, The Great American Ball Park. Actually got there ½ hour before the game started, and found a parking spot just a block away. Walked around the park a little, then found our seats. Just barely under cover - great! Because there was a 40% chance of rain (and it did!) So here's the dilemma - who to cheer for? The Reds were playing the St Louis Cardinals. Hmmm … the Cardinals are arch rivals of the Chicago Cubs, our beloved loveable losers, but it is a good team. But I shouldn't root for them. But Tracy is from St Louis and a Cardinal fan - shouldn't I root on behalf of her? But the Reds are in the same division as the Cubs, so they too, are rivals. Yes, these are the questions I ask my self in a situation such as this. The solution - I'm in the Cincinnati Reds' house, I'll root for them. And I was right! They won - and (sorry Tracy) knocked St Louis out of 1st place. Well, that was fun!!
They next day was Ken's speaking engagement which went very well. It's not often that you get to see your husband in a different light, so that was nice. The gig was over by 3pm, enough time to drive back - in the pouring rain! We had read that you shouldn't use the cruise control in the rain, oh man, you mean I have to drive manually?
Of course, the best part of road trips is spending time with someone you love. No distractions (other than traffic), talking about things that don't seem to come up during the everyday grind, singing the songs together, and just appreciating each others company.
