Blackhawk Fever

I never was much of a sports fan, until I met my husband. Sports was #2, right behind work. I didn't start watching and attending sporting events with him because I wanted him to pay attention to me, or because it was a way for us to spend time together, but because I saw it brought such joy to him.

He has been very patient with me while explaining the rules, and answering my pesky questions such as, 'why is that player doing that?', or 'wouldn't their uniforms look better if they used blue as an accent color?'

He is a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, so he has endured the humiliation and agony that goes with it, especially when the (well-deserved) White Sox won the World Series in 2005. But he has also seen the Chicago Bears win the Superbowl, and the Chicago Bulls win 6 championships, even tho he swore he would never watch them after they fired Doug Collins in favor of Phil Jackson! We had season tickets for the Valparaiso University Men's Basketball Team in the years leading up to and including their 'Sweet Sixteen' bid, which is quite a feat! That's when I learned what it was to 'follow a team'.

But when they put the Chicago Blackhawks back on TV, after a 2 decade disappearance, there was a renewed enthusiasm in my husband. I heard stories of watching hockey with his Dad and playing the tabletop game with his family when he was young, that I had never heard before. And because I have learned so much over the years, it has been exciting for me as well.
Congratulations Chicago Blackhawks!! Job well done! Oh yea, I got the fever!
