Framing What's Important

I meet a lot of people who say that they just don't know what to frame. My answer is one of two things; frame something you like or frame something that's important. Those are both very subjective things, but the idea is that you should custom frame the things that really matter to you.

A newspaper article about your son or daughter's achievement, a photograph of your first car, anything that has true meaning to you is a treasure that you can preserve with framing.

Last year, my mother's story was featured in the Gift of Hope fundraising catalog for the American Diabetes Association. I framed it for her because that accomplishment means a lot to her, and now she can display it with pride to people in her home.

If you have a blank space on your wall that you don't quite know what to do with, take a moment and consider, do you have anything important or meaningful to frame? If you do, why not let those moments be the ones you display on your wall?

West Coast Art and Frame Show

I just returned from Las Vegas where the annual West Coast Art and Framing show is held. It’s wonderful catching up with friends, seeing new product and sharing ideas re: how to make our businesses more successful. It’s a constant go-go-go, so I am happy to be back on home turf, and in my own bed!

Ken teaches classes, so my main priority is to help him with that, but in-between classes, I check out the various booths. Among my favorites were PI Creative Arts; they print art on not only paper & canvas, but metal, acrylic & wood. There are certain looks in art that reproduce with amazing results on metal or acrylic.

Larson-Juhl always has a beautiful booth – lots of ideas. I took numerous pics to bring back to the gallery. They even framed an iPad and had it stationed on their Facebook page, so that you could just go up to it and click ‘like’ – forward thinking.

But, I saved the best for last – Penny Lane Publishing has licensed David Bromstad’s art. For those of you who don’t know the name, he is HGTV’s 1st Design Star winner (a show I’ve watched from the beginning – I think it’s in the 7th season now). The winner receives a show of their own; his is ‘Color Splash’ – by far he has been the most successful winner. His niche is that he creates a piece of original art for each room he designs on air, and he makes it look sooo easy. I got to meet him (he’s taller & thinner than on TV, but that beautiful smile is the same!) I asked him how much art I needed to buy for him to make a ‘gallery call’, he just smiled. But he did sign my catalog and I got a hug. It goes without saying that you’ll see his art in the gallery soon!
Here is just a sampling
